About me

I am an an academic and writer named Jason Wilson.

My research interests include digital games and art, online political communication (at the moment I am focussing on digital communication, incivility and contentious politics), social media and mobile media.

I’m also a freelance writer, and I have been published in a number of online and print outlets.

You can find some of my stuff at the ABC’s Drum website, New Matilda, The Conversation, and Limited News.

I have held academic appointments at the University of Wollongong, the University of Bedfordshire (UK), the University of Canberra and in the Creative Industries Faculty at Queensland University of Technology.

I did my PhD at Griffith University with the estimable Dr Jason Jacobs – it was about early videogames. I am looking to dust it off soon and develop some more publications from it. You can download it [PDF].

Once upon a time I was the project manager and chief editor of YouDecide2007, a citizen journalism service run during the 2007 Federal Election. I was also E-Democracy Director at online campaigning organisation GetUp!, where I managed an e-democracy initiative called Project Democracy. Full details of all of my adventures are in My CV.

I support the mighty North Queensland Cowboys.

    Hi Jason

Thought we oughtta go offline, the online version of ‘step outside : ) I just wanted to make the point that if you look at the responses to that RT site you posted on Twitter they were pretty low level, even disagreements. Low level responses mean a lame site. The sites that are a worry have ongoing pseudo-intellectual banter bouncing back and forth from multiple posters. Can’t imagine the serious ones are out there for the public ot gawk at though.
